David Uhlenhake (far right in picture), Customer Insights Manager for WillowWood, spoke to our support group on User Centered Design: Using Empathy to Design for the Amputee on Monday, September 25th. David said “…my role (at work) is to listen to people’s experiences and use that to make sure WillowWood is providing products and services that truly support the amputees and clinicians. One concept I have for doing this is coming to support groups and talking to them about UX Design and how it is being used to support people with physical conditions like amputations.” After David spoke, he opened a discussion to hear about some experiences from the group. David wanted to hear about our support group members’ lives (struggles, successes, feelings, relationships, etc.), not just about the prosthetic products we use. David also commented, “The best products and services come from experiences and empathy (which is very different from sympathy).” Everyone who attended A.C.T.I.O.N. truly enjoyed learning about User Centered Design and how we could can apply the technique to your own lives!
