Harold became a left below-knee amputee on October 17, 1985 from an industrial accident. Both of his legs were run over by a forklift! When he became unhappy with his first prosthetist, he had heard about Karl (Burk, Prosthetist) when he was just starting his career as a licensed prosthetist. Years later, when Karl started Action Prosthetics, he happily followed him to the new practice.
Harold returned to his job at the factory 6 months after his limb loss and stayed there until he turned 65. He has also farmed his entire life. He says after losing his leg, he just had to get on with life. Harold and his wife raised 4 children while maintaining the farm. He is now the proud grandpa of 7 grandkids!
Harold’s prosthetic leg uses a super condylar suspension system housed in a carbon fiber socket connected to a dynamic foot. He says he would give Action Prosthetics, “AAA!” Harold said Karl (Burk, Prosthetist), is such a nice guy and he likes that he can joke with him at appointments. Harold says he loves that he can walk without crutches and that his prosthesis is easy to put on and take off. Harold likes that Karl is always willing to work with him when he needs something changed on his prosthesis.
These days, Harold still stays busy around his farm. He loves to ride his 4-wheeler next door to his son and granddaughter’s houses. He keeps his farm property looking pretty as a picture!
When asked if Harold would recommend Action Prosthetics, he said, “Yes, Karl (Burk, Prosthetist) is the best!”
We love working with Harold. He gives Molly, our Patient Liaison and bi-lateral below knee amputee, hope for her own future living with limb loss!
