On October 9, 2019, Darlene Wise became a left below knee amputee from complications that arose from neuropathy and a Charcot fracture in the foot.  You might think this would have kept Darlene from living her life on her farm just outside of Covington, Ohio but you’d be so very wrong!  Darlene is back to tending to her farm animals and her flowers and she couldn’t be happier!

Darlene chose Action Prosthetics as she was not happy with the fit of her prosthesis from her former prosthetic provider as she kept getting blisters on her residual limb.   So, Darlene first heard about our A.C.T.I.O.N. Amputee Group from her friend, Mike, who also is an amputee.  She attended meetings with him and finally decided to call our office after she had a revision on her residual limb.  She has been our patient since August of 2021.

Darlene says her experiences with Action Prosthetics have been great.  She is very impressed that all of the prosthetic fabrication is done in house in our lab and not sent out to another facility to be completed.  Darlene says she has never felt rushed during her appointments.  She also mentioned, “Karl (Burk, our Prosthetist) takes his time and works on my prosthesis until it’s made right.”

Karl (Burk) recently delivered a socket replacement to Darlene!  Her prosthesis now utilizes a lock and pin socket system which are working much better for her busy life.   Darlene says the best thing about her prosthesis is the fact that Karl has given her mobility and her independence back!  Darlene’s love is taking care of her animals on her farm or as she says, “Her little piece of Heaven!”  She has 1 horse, 2 goats, chickens, 4 cats and 3 dogs!  She is the caregiver for all of them!  She says it’s great that she can do things that we all take for granted like housework.  Darlene also loves to plant flowers and tend to them all spring and summer.  She stated she is outside a lot walking around on her farm!  Darlene is a retired nurse.

When Darlene was asked if she would recommend Action Prosthetics, she said, “Yes!” as she added, “I was comfortable with the staff from the start.  Pam (Our Office Manager) and Molly (Our Patient Liaison) are so very friendly.  Karl has never rushed me, and he always listens.”

The staff at Action Prosthetics loves that we helped Darlene get back her independence on her farm and in life!
