Bob Carver became a left above-knee amputee in September of 2007. He had been a long-time smoker and after his amputation (from P.A.D.- peripheral artery disease), he quit smoking– cold turkey! He has never looked back. Bob’s a pretty tough guy. After all, he served our country in the Army for 4 years as well.
Bob chose Action Prosthetics after becoming very unhappy for many years with his current prosthetic company who was referred to him by his surgeon. He drove by our office in Troy one day, saw our sign and stopped in to talk to us. He has been our patient ever since May of 2014!
Karl Burk (Our Prosthetist) recently fit Bob with a new prosthetic leg that has a newer model computerized knee- the Ottobock Kenevo C-Leg. Bob loves that his prosthesis gets him out in the world when he wants to. Bob has a shorter residual limb which has led to difficulty in getting a comfortable fit. Bob said Karl has been able to make him a leg that fits better and he has really improved the fit of the socket for him.
Bob says he has gained many, especially important benefits from using his computerized prosthetic leg. He loves that he can go to the grocery store by himself. Bob also likes the fact that he can drive to the VA for appointments on his own. Also, and very important to Bob, is that he can attend 12 Step Meetings. Bob is an incredible example of a person who has turned his life around; he has been sober 13 years! We are so enormously proud of the choices Bob has made and how he is always willing to help others who are struggling with addiction or to help give advice with wearing a prosthesis. He has recently been joining our A.C.T.I.O.N.* Amputee Group meetings as well!
Bob also loves to read novels and play video games in his spare time.
When asked if Bob would recommend Action Prosthetics, he said, “Absolutely! I like everybody there!” We are proud and blessed to serve Bob and his prosthetic needs here at Action Prosthetics!
