Dave Friesthler became a left below-knee amputee in 1974 from a motorcycle accident when serving in the military. Then, he had another motorcycle accident in the mid-90’s which eventually led to an above knee amputation in 2004! Did Dave stop riding? Of course not!
Dave chose to switch to Action Prosthetics years ago when he became unhappy with the prosthetic company he was working with. The Prosthetics’ Department at the Dayton V.A. referred him to us. When asked about his experience with Action Prosthetics, his quick answer was…“I wouldn’t stay if I wasn’t happy with the service and Karl’s work!” (Karl Burk is our Prosthetist) Dave also mentioned that Karl was able to build him a prosthesis that did not hurt.
Dave wears an above knee prosthesis with a pin suspension system which utilizes an Ottobock C-Leg 4 and a high activity foot. When asked about the best part of his prosthesis, Dave simply said: “I can walk!” He said the best benefit from his prosthesis is that he can live his life. “I can get out and do what I want to do. I feel normal.” We love what Dave said next…“I always look at what I CAN do!” That is truly how Dave lives his life. If he wants to do something, he figures it out around being a person with limb loss!
Dave loves to go fishing, boating, camping and of course… motorcycle riding! He recently rode his trike all the way to Texas (Woodville-Jasper area) to visit a military friend! Dave and his wife, Jennie, also enjoy attending the A.C.T.I.O.N. monthly amputee group meetings. If you want to meet this amazing man, join one of our A.C.T.I.O.N. Amputee Group meetings some time!
When asked if Dave would recommend Action Prosthetics, he said, “Yes…it works! Karl puts you back on your feet!”
It is an honor and pleasure for our staff to help David with his limb loss need!
